It’s policy in this salon that everyone is greeted and acknowledged when they arrive. As a woman it could be intimidating to venture into the recesses of male grooming but the team that owner Jon has hand-picked make an inclusive and intimate atmosphere. There is no locker room banter here and I felt like one of the boys in no time! Swiftly seated in the hot seat, the male Muddy specimen was made to feel comfortable and ready to tidy up that ‘do. It’s easy to see why men aged 1 to 100 come here, there are no egos and everyone is genuinely pleased to see you.

Ricky was excellent at deciphering our guinea pig’s vague style request and listened intently. He regularly checked that he was on the right track and each hair was snipped with care. When it came to the shave, the man approached it like a ritual! The skin was smoothed and shaved and oiled to perfection. No follicle was left unpreened. The salon itself is minimalist and stripped back without losing its charm. A Jim Beam bottle here and a skateboard there, the free beer (I KNOW!) and sensational coffee go to show that it’s the little touches that make a place exceptional.
